Endangered and numbering less than 50,000 in the wild, the Asian elephant will be very rare in the coming decades.  They are not only different from African elephants, they are an entirely different species altogether.  These Asian elephants you see in zoos, parks and tourists spots are the last surviving species of the genus Elephas.

With virtually no habitat left safe enough for them to live on on their own, the only viable way for these animals to survive is through tourism.
