  • As you move away from the urban jungles of Manila and Cebu and move closer to provincial areas of the Philippines, you will be delighted to find man-made bamboo structures just off the shore.

These structures can sometimes be very elaborate, but most of them are small and are designed as holding areas for fish or mussels. Some structures have makeshift beds for fishermen that want to take a nap.

  • Feb 2010 - President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on her ICT Tour in the Philippines. An absolute delight to be able to picture and shake hands with one of the most influencial women in the world. One of the few times in history when an economist got elected as president, which partly explains why the Philippines never had a recession during her term.

According to the Mexican government, in 2006, of the 108 million people in the country, about 45 million are living in inherited poverty, where circumstances related to previous generations such as debts and lack of access to basic resources continue on to the next generation.

(Don's note: I walked around Guadalajara's Centro area and saw this elderly woman selling sponges besides one of the 19th century churches. In my broken Spanish, I was able to get permission for a picture.)

Members of Teleperformance's Bacolod team responded to the disaster within the first six days and was able to deliver food, water, and clothing to victims. In many cases, the Teleperformance group was able to deliver these lifesaving items before the overwhelmed government and aid agencies were able to respond.

(Don's note: Levi Trio was kind enough to take pictures for me while I rested. He took this marvelous shot.)

His late father originally chose the color yellow when his allies tied yellow ribbons around him signifying they still believed in him to oppose the former dicator, President Marcos. • For the first time, the Philippines used an electronic voting system that immediately provided results online. This reduced the political tension that was prevalent in past elections. For those that didn't have a computer or television, various organizations displayed election results on the streets.

In this example, they posted the results on the main highway which attracted crowds and caused a traffic congestion.

Look closely and you'll find the jeepney has the Aquino ribbon while the taxi has a Villar checkmark. Noynoy Aquino won the presidential race against Manny Villar not because of any major achievements in his political career, but because he was the son of the Philippines' most revered modern heroes: Ninoy Aquino, who was assassinated by Marco's henchmen, and the late president Corazon Aquino, who passed away due to cancer.

The people have hope that the son will carry on the legacy of change and that he will reform the country's corrupt institutions.

  • Yesterday was the 21st year anniversary of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989. Roughly 7,000 civilians were killed, according to NATO intelligence, after the government sent battle hardened troops to stop the protests. PLA military units originally from Beijing were sent away as they could not do the deed. They called in the 27th Army from Hangzhou to "clear" the protest area.
