Philippines

The Philippines is composed of 7,107 islands with three main geographical divisions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital city is Manila. From the days of Magellan to World War II, the Philippines is a country rich in history and an absolutely crazy mix of cultures from Arabian to Indian to Chinese to Malaysian to Indonesian and because it was a former U.S. colony, it also has close cultural ties to the United States. Aside from the language of Tagalog (Filipino), the other official language is English. Though Visayan languages are the most commonly spoken language throughout the islands.

Pope John Paul II Tower is an eight-story building given to the Roman Catholic Church by Bacolod real estate mogul, Simplicio Palanca. It was developed exactly where the pope spoke to thousands of Negrenses during his historic visit on Feb 20, 1981. The tower is the tallest structure in Bacolod, which includes a 12-ft lighted cross. It was handed over to Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra on Feb. 18.
As you move away from the urban jungles of Manila and Cebu and move closer to provincial areas of the Philippines, you will be delighted to find man-made bamboo structures just off the shore.

These structures can sometimes be very elaborate, but most of them are small and are designed as holding areas for fish or mussels. Some structures have makeshift beds for fishermen that want to take a nap.
