Philippines

The Philippines is composed of 7,107 islands with three main geographical divisions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital city is Manila. From the days of Magellan to World War II, the Philippines is a country rich in history and an absolutely crazy mix of cultures from Arabian to Indian to Chinese to Malaysian to Indonesian and because it was a former U.S. colony, it also has close cultural ties to the United States. Aside from the language of Tagalog (Filipino), the other official language is English. Though Visayan languages are the most commonly spoken language throughout the islands.

  • Feb 2009 - President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on her ICT Tour in the Philippines. An absolute delight to be able to picture and shake hands with one of the most influencial women in the world. One of the few times in history when an economist got elected as president, which partly explains why the Philippines never had a recession during her term.

  • On June 21, 2008, Typhoon Frank unleashed heavy rains and strong winds that flooded and devastated almost the entire Province of Iloilo. Nearly 500,000 people were left homeless. This child, was still in shock from the damage in his neighborhood.

Members of Teleperformance's Bacolod team responded to the disaster within the first six days and was able to deliver food, water, and clothing to victims. In many cases, the Teleperformance group was able to deliver these lifesaving items before the overwhelmed government and aid agencies were able to respond.

(Don's note: Levi Trio was kind enough to take pictures for me while I rested. He took this marvelous shot.)

  • As you move away from the urban jungles of Manila and Cebu and move closer to provincial areas of the Philippines, you will be delighted to find man-made bamboo structures just off the shore.

These structures can sometimes be very elaborate, but most of them are small and are designed as holding areas for fish or mussels. Some structures have makeshift beds for fishermen that want to take a nap.
