The Philippines is composed of 7,107 islands with three main geographical divisions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The capital city is Manila. From the days of Magellan to World War II, the Philippines is a country rich in history and an absolutely crazy mix of cultures from Arabian to Indian to Chinese to Malaysian to Indonesian and because it was a former U.S. colony, it also has close cultural ties to the United States. Aside from the language of Tagalog (Filipino), the other official language is English. Though Visayan languages are the most commonly spoken language throughout the islands.
